IMPORTANT NOTICE:
YOUR CARD STATEMENT WILL SHOW AS BLUE GURUZ INC.
This is a call to everyone who believes our stories, our rhythms, and our heritage deserve to live.
For generations, the drum has been the heartbeat of Trinidad and Tobago music. Long before Carnival was a global celebration, our ancestors used their rhythm, chants, and lavways to tell stories of survival, resistance, community, and freedom. The newspapers gave us the biased views of the colonisers but it was the lavways that documented the feelings of the people. These lavways have persisted for generations, echoing from the yards and streets of our communities and continuing in the vibe and energy of soca music today. But many of these traditions remain undocumented. Many of the voices, rhythms, and musical expressions that shaped our Carnival story are at risk of being forgotten. We are asking for your support to help us record and preserve them. In April 2026 we started recording Songs of Kambule at the iconic Blackman Ranch. For three days we camped, rehearsed, sang and recorded and the result is a landmark album project capturing the traditional drums, lavways, chants, and songs that form the foundation of the play Kambule and the deeper roots of Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival.
