Hi, I am Riaz Ramcharitar I was diagnosed in 2014 with an early onset of Parkinson's Disease.  This disease has further progressed and I have been unable to work or function in any proper day to day activities. At times my mobility is in overdrive, at times I'm unable to move, I experience tremors daily and of lately my speech and smell has been affected.  Due to this situation, I have seen a panel of doctors and specialists locally and abroad.   I have reached the maximum dosage of medications recommended.   The medications have been very costly one (1) out of three (3) sets cost One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Dollar ($ 1,840.00) monthly.  Unfortunately the side effects of the medications have overcome the benefits. 

Recently I was advised that I am a good candidate for DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION SURGERY at a hospital in Columbia where I was assessed. The surgery is costing Sixty Five Thousand USD ($65,000.00USD) and additionally airfare,  food and housing for continuous after treatment and care.  If no complications arise I may have to stay for an average of four (4) weeks before being able to return home in Trinidad. 

This surgery is not a cure but it is the best option for me now.  This will help in the recovery of my motor skills, alleviate other symptoms of Parkinson's Disease and give me some form of normalcy and independence back in my life. As one would imagine my family and I have been going through a very difficult time emotionally,  physically and most of all financially.
