Help Claire Walk: A 3-Month Journey to Philadelphia Hi, my name is Kristal Hamilton-Barrow, and I am reaching out with a humble heart on behalf of my 7-year-old daughter, Claire Skye Barrow. Claire was born with Myelomeningocele (a form of spina bifida) and Right Equinovarus Foot Deformity. Despite the challenges she faces every day, Claire is the bravest and most joyful little girl you could ever meet. She loves to play, to learn, and to dream—but walking has always been a struggle. The Good News: Claire Has Been Accepted for Life-Changing Surgery We have received the incredible news that Claire has been approved and accepted for medically necessary, time-sensitive treatment at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Philadelphia, PA. The team at Shriners—including Drs. Ishmael, Lipa, and Cohn—has planned a series of procedures for Claire, including:
  • Left open ankle release with extensor tenotomy
  • Right tibialis posterior recession
  • Open Achilles tendon lengthening
  • Plantar fascia release
  • Split anterior tendon transfer
These surgeries will give Claire the chance to walk more freely, with less pain and greater independence. The Challenge: Getting There and Staying There Here is the most important thing to understand: Shriners Hospital covers 100% of Claire's medical care. We are endlessly grateful for this. But the hospital does not cover our living expenses during the 3-month stay in Philadelphia. Claire and I (her mother and legal guardian) will need to be in Philadelphia from January 17, 2027, to approximately April 17, 2027. Claire must be accompanied by a parent for her entire stay and course of treatment. We need to cover:
  • Accommodation for 3 months (we are applying for the Ronald McDonald House at $25/night, but a room is not guaranteed—so we must be prepared to rent a nearby apartment as a backup)
  • Food for two people
  • Ground transportation (SEPTA public transit and occasional accessible rides)
  • Phone/internet and daily necessities
  • AFO orthopedic shoes and recovery equipment
Our Goal: TTD 60,000 (approx. USD 12,000–12,600) We have set our goal based on the real cost of self-renting an apartment in Philadelphia as a backup plan. If we are fortunate enough to stay at the Ronald McDonald House, the additional funds will be used for Claire's orthopedic shoes, follow-up appointment transportation, and other recovery expenses. Every dollar will be used only for Claire's living expenses during her treatment period. We will share updates and receipts throughout our journey. How You Can Help We know times are hard for everyone. If you cannot donate, please share this campaign with your friends, family, and community. Your prayers, kind words, and shares mean more to us than you can imagine. Claire has a long road ahead, but with your help, she will take her first steps toward a brighter future. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. — Kristal & Claire
