In February 2019, in Trinidad and Tobago, little Danny was born.

From Danny Single mother:

"All I could remember after giving birth to Danny was the doctor asking me if I had Zika in pregnancy. Confused by his question, he broke the news to me that Davyn’s head was smaller than normal, and that further testing would be required. When I looked at him, I said "you are so perfect, what could possibly be wrong?"

I felt my whole world shattered hearing from every doctor that interacted with me saying that the Zika virus was new, and they didn’t and they didn't know enough about it to know how to treat Danny's microcephaly. I’ve heard them say to me numerous times, “your baby’s survival rate is minimum” and “even if he grows, he will be globally delayed, and "expect a number of complications” and "there is nothing we can do about the situation."

After we were discharged from the hospital, we were advised to join different clinics: Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Child Development, NICU, for him to be monitored. We followed all the advice that we given. But most times we would attend an appointment, and wait up to 6 hours for a doctor's visit lasting no more than 10 minutes, just for them to measure his head and say “come back In 5 months time.”

We waited 1 year, 2months to get an appointment with Child Development clinic, at which time Dannyn starting developing complications.

We tried to treat him as a normal child, but soon realized that he wasn’t reaching his milestones. In October 2018, he developed a fever that just couldn’t leave him. He was warded and treated, and once discharged, the fever kept coming back, and we were back and forth in hospital. By December, he developed what the doctors believed was Aspiration Pneumonia, and in January 2019, he was warded for the entire month in Critical Illness Unit, feeding through an NG tube and having stomach bleeds, while still battling with the reoccurring fever that doctors could not find the source of.

Every week they had to change his IV medication because the fever kept re-occurring. During this time, he developed Seizures which anyone could tell, is a horrible and terrifying experience to watch your child go through knowing there is nothing you can do about it.

Danny has been hospitalised 6 times between October 2018 and April 2019. We kept strong and positive for him despite the negative news we were receiving all around. Danny is the youngest of my 3 children. I remember everyday, his brother and sister would ask, "mommy when is Danny coming home, we want to play with him," But by playing with him, they meant laying down next to him and singing nursery rhymes and clapping for him because he was globally delayed: he doesn’t roll over, or sit up, and his vision is still unknown. Once he heard their voices he would smile and be comforted.

We have exhausted our bank account trying to get any tests to help him, until one day one of his specialists told us, “we don’t have the treatment, equipment or technology to help this little boy, take him abroad and he will receive he medical attention he needs."

With that in mind, I started send out correspondences to hospitals all around the world asking who would be able to help him and Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami sent me a quote for therapy and treatment.

Please help give my little boy a chance to get the treatment he needs. All supports donated will be used for medical and special dietary expenses for him."

The total estimated cost for tests and procedures quoted by Nicklaus Children's Hospital is $25,000.44. The tests quoted include: Neurology, GI, Pedi Surgery, Ophthalmology, ENT, Urology, Sedated MRI with and without contrast, video fluoroscopy, EEG, VCUG, and Renal u/s.

This total estimated amount is based on the tentative diagnosis testing/evaluation needed for diagnostic testing and may increase based on findings during initial consultations.

Money for flights, lodging and living expenses in Miami are also included in the total amount of this FundMe.

This campaign is being run by his mom, Danny's therapist. Funds are being withdrawn by Jenny which is Dannys mom
