In September, I went on a 2-week long family vacation to Jamaica with my husband, kids, mother and mil. Planned this vacation for 3 years, saved up and went. The second week, my mom got severly ill and had to be rushed to the hospital where she passed away 3 days later. My family and I are devastated and are trying to come to terms with what had happened. We did not have the funds to stay beyond the time we had initially planned and we did not have the funds to bring the body back. We paid the funeral home US$2900 for a cremation. My sister and my mom's sisters came to view the body and we left thinking that there would have been a cremation. An autopsy was done by the Jamaican state and we were told that it was inconclusive, therefore a cremation was no longer possible. However, we were told a burial can be done. For the burial we have been quoted an additional US$5000 plus. We cannot afford this. We have been to the various ministries and commissions etc, spoken to people in Trinidad and Jamaica and right now we are at a stand still. To make matters worse, every day that goes by with a burial we have to pay the funeral home US$50 in storage fees. Added to an already difficult situation, I had an unexpected surgery this week and a follow up in a couple more weeks. I would like to raise as much as I can to pay the funeral home. I'm am out of options and hoping for the best.
